WHMIS Training

This three hour generic training session offers a unique hands-on approach to WHMIS training and will benefit experienced and inexperienced workers. The program can be customized to include workplace specific information.

Employers must provide WHMIS training to all workers where hazardous chemicals are used in the workplace. Workers that require instruction are those that work with or near controlled products. Yearly WHMIS refreshers are a pro-active approach to due diligence and a step towards a safer workplace. Employers must provide instruction to workers whenever new chemicals are brought into the workplace.

What is WHMIS?

WHMIS is a Canada-wide system designed to give employers and workers information about hazardous materials used in the workplace. Under WHMIS, there are three ways in which information on hazardous materials is to be provided:

  • labels on the containers of hazardous materials;
  • material safety data sheets to supplement the label with detailed hazard
  • and precautionary information; and
  • worker education programs.

This training seminar is developed according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 860.

Objectives

Participants will;

  • List the legal responsibilities of the employee and employer.
